Exercise 3 BlendingBefore we get started I want to mention that I am out of the hospital and doing OK now. I had some trouble with my heart and I know some of you were concerned. It took a few days to recoup but I am doing art again and ready to jump back into my favorite group.
I have to say that I am a little disappointed in a few members for not getting involved in what we are doing here. We hold these exercises so you can learn and that's the main purpose of the group. This next session will let me know who is serious about the group and who should have just been watching all a long. I am not looking for numbers here. I want to keep the members to a small number so we can get to know you and your art. So get involved or just make room for more serious minded members to take your place. We are maxed out now at 40 members I think that's a great size for what we are doing. Like I said its time to step up or step down and make room for someone else here.
In the last few exercises you have
Texture abuse and the novice
Back when I first started making art I used textures on most everything. I remember using them on every piece of stock in my pictures, each one had its separate texture. In most cases that's called texture abuse.
Another thing I did was I never adjusting the settings. I mean the texture made my art look cool! I was not aware of layer styles and opacities...but I learned fast. Not that I had anyone tell me what I was doing wrong, but I was starting to read things around the community from other artists The buzz was (and its false) is that textures were a way of the beginning artist to hide mistakes. That's when I started NOT using them and my art grew. I was now confident enough to start using textures again.
The art itself is not that good but I have given you examples. First is no texture, than abused with textures, and last with only one overlay.
Our DutyWe swallowed the path home
Because we were hungry,
Though starving is an ongoing
Story, an empty bag
Dancing in the streets,
Full of an unfastened voice
Walking through the house,
Wind unchained, heart admonished.
Heaven fills its eyes, crawls away,
That sleeping boat content to follow
The vacant waves, intervals
Of dying that we dare not interrupt,
And we watch the kind ear shrinking
From our charcoal docks; heaven
With a full stomach crawls away.
This is what we were put here for.

^Nyx-Valentine arrived in our community and started whipping everyone into a frenzy with her relentless desire to bring the Artistic Nude and Fetish galleries to the fore. 9 years later, and it's safe to say that Nyx is not only a leader as a photographer in these galleries, but she has also established herself as a much saught after model. ^...
